Am I going to pay alimony the rest of my life?
Return to FAQ VideosTranscript:
The way that alimony works is there are certain terms of marriages that determine how long alimony is going to be paid. If you had a short-term marriage, then you don’t have to necessarily pay alimony for the rest of your life. If you have a long-term marriage, which is 17 years or greater, then there’s a likelihood that you will have to pay permanent alimony to your spouse, but alimony is all based on need and ability to pay, so if your spouse is making the same money that you are, then you may not even have to pay alimony. At O’Mara Law Group, we’re going to assist you in understanding what support you’re going to have to pay your spouse when you file for divorce.
